Pinehurst Hospitality - The Package Story
Rachel displayed extraordinary Pinehurst Hospitality with an unexpected guest seeking immediate assistance.
Amazing acts of hospitality happen at Pinehurst every day. 1,600+ employees routinely deliver thoughtful gestures of genuine hospitality to guests, members and visitors.
Typically, there are few witnesses to these acts of kindness. Guests are often wowed by behavior that many employees simply consider to be them doing their jobs.
You know what they say about a tree falling in the forest. If no one is there to hear it, does it make a sound? When incredible hospitality happens at Pinehurst, we want to make sure others hear about it! We hope to inspire others to perform incredible acts of hospitality of their own.
This story features Rachel Selking, Human Resources Coordinator. Not normally in front of guests, Rachel found herself face-to-face with a guest desiring prompt action.
The guest needed to mail a package and desperately wanted a quick workout before enjoying a Spa treatment. Oh, and she was walking in the rain, over a mile from the post office with a spa appointment in less than an hour.
Rachel began exploring problem-solving options involving shuttles and courtesy vehicles. As the guest showed frustration, Rachel jumped into action, driving the guest to the post office in her personal car.
With the guest inside the post office, Rachel then coordinated with co-worker Nicole to move the spa appointment back an hour. Problem solved, crisis averted, and guest satisfied!
Luckily, Nicole shed light on this incredible story by recognizing Rachel on Pinehurst’s internal communication service, Beekeeper. We quickly picked up on the significance of Rachel’s gesture and plan to use it as inspiration for other employees.
The Package Story showcases unreasonable hospitality, creative problem-solving, teamwork and collaboration.
We’re privileged to work at Pinehurst where we have the opportunity to transform lives through hospitality and unforgettable experiences.

Working at Pinehurst has really been refreshing and a blessing after 38 years in banking. With all the stress & pressure in performing every day tasks in banking..it really got to be not fun anymore. Working here makes me reminisce about my early days in banking..early 80's..when you felt like family. I truly feel like I'm family working here and it resonates from the top down. Thanks Tom because your leadership is felt throughout this storied place. Every person I've interacted with from the cooks, maintenance, security, transportation, Golf Pro's, HR, etc..everyone seems to love this place.. just like me!
